 The Versatility Spectrum (Lighting)

Pothos is famous for tolerating low light, but its leaves look best when given a good amount of brightness.

• Bright & Bold: To see those stunning splashes of color (yellow, white, or neon), place your Pothos in bright, indirect light. The more vibrant the variegation, the more light it needs!

• Low & Lush: It will tolerate medium or even low light, but its growth will slow, and variegated types (like 'Marble Queen' or 'Golden') may revert to mostly green.

• The Warning: Absolutely no direct, harsh sun! This will scorch the leaves and leave brown patches.

 The Quench & Wait (Watering)

Pothos is very clear when it is thirsty, making its watering needs easy to master.

• The Technique: Wait until the top 2–3 inches of soil are completely dry. Then, water thoroughly until it runs out of the drainage hole.

• The Pothos Signal: Your plant will tell you exactly when it's time: the leaves will start to look slightly soft or droopy, losing their firm texture. This is your cue! After watering, they will perk right back up.

• The Danger: Avoid constantly wet or soggy soil, which leads to yellowing leaves and root rot.

 The Simple Foundation (Soil & Support)

Pothos are not fussy and grow well in simple conditions.

• Soil: Use a standard, well-draining houseplant potting mix. Adding a handful of perlite or orchid bark can improve aeration and drainage, which it appreciates.

• Support (Trailing vs. Climbing):

  • For dramatic, flowing elegance, let the vines trail from a shelf or hanging basket.

  • For giant, mature leaves (which can get impressively large!), give the vines a moss pole to climb. Tying them up encourages maturity.

 The Easy-Going Meal (Feeding)

During its active growth phase, a little boost goes a long way.

• The Rule: Feed once a month during the growing season (Spring and Summer) with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer diluted to half-strength.

• The Rest: Stop feeding entirely during the cooler, darker Fall and Winter months.
